The White House announced the Genesis AI Initiative, a $10 billion public-private partnership designed to accelerate artificial intelligence development for national security, economic competitiveness, and scientific research. The initiative brings together the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, and major technology companies including Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic.
The program will fund new AI research centers at 12 universities across the country, establish standards for AI safety and reliability in defense applications, and create an AI talent pipeline by sponsoring 10,000 graduate scholarships in computer science and related fields annually over five years.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said the initiative is critical to maintaining technological superiority over China and ensuring that the United States leads in AI development. Critics raised concerns about the concentration of AI power in a small number of large corporations.
